Robots Now Able To Give Us Spongebaths

Robots Now Able To Give Us Spongebaths

Nurses don't exactly have the coolest job in the world as they're required to help patients wash various body parts. The researchers over at the Healthcare Robotics Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology have come up with a prototype robot that might make the job easier as it can help patients maintain personal hygiene without the need for a human nurse. The robot is capable of handling a washcloth in its hand and uses a camera and laser range finder to figure out the dirty spots that need to be cleaned. The robot is even gentle enough to not injure the patient that it's cleaning. Despite all the technology inside it, the robot currently still needs a human operator to tell it the general area to clean, though we're sure that future versions of this robot will be able to go about it without need for external help.
