AOL e-mail app is Project Phoenix

AOL e-mail app is Project Phoenix

AOL just introduced an updated web client for e-mail known as Project Phoenix, where according to the tech giant, this makes up 45% of all its page views. This could very well be a pre-emptive shot at Facebook as the social network giant is tipped to also announce an e-mail solution of its own tomorrow. Project Phoenix is currently in the beta testing phase with but a handful of users, although it will roll out to the public sometime in 2011. The new design does resemble Gmail in some ways according to CNET, but does have its fair share of quirks such as additional features like a quick bar for easily writing and sending short e-mails. Not only that, AOL threw in a new Twitter-like side bar known as “Smart View” for previewing the contents of e-mails and their attachments, alongside maps, conversation threads and other data. Among the e-mail addresses that Project Phoenix supports would be aol.com, ygm.com, wow.com, games.com and love.com on the AOL domain.
